During a trip to Haiti in 2010, I was exposed to the desperation this country had for ‘clean water’. While handing water out in the streets of Port au Prince, crowds would literally break into fights for a 600ml (20oz.) bottle. It was desperation at its rawest, a 600ml bottle of water represented the difference between health and sickness, life and death. As the majority of my role in Youth With A Mission involves training and sending people into the mission field, I knew I had an incredible platform to provide Water Technology training in our schools. We experimented with this from September – December 2010. So far in 2011, our teams have built Rain Catchment Tanks, Bio-Sand Filters and Water Pumps in Togo (West Africa), Cambodia and Haiti. In total, this has provided more than 3000 people with clean drinking water.
Justice Water: In August this year, we officially started Justice Water. Our vision is simple: we envision a world where everyone has access to clean drinking water. A world where no child has to die due to preventable , water-related diseases. A world where women and children don't have to spend valuable hours collecting water, but have opportunities to a quality life.
Our focus is not simply to provide safe drinking to those in need—our goal is to help people gain the knowledge and experience they need to help themselves and their communities.
